CENIC is convening The CalREN-XD/HPR Workshop 2008, a 2-day small, invited workshop taking place on September 15-16, 2008 at
Calit2 on the scenic and beautiful campus of UC San Diego.
The focus of this workshop will be on showcasing end-to-end applications among California researchers and collaborators regionally, nationally and
globally. California-based scientists who are doing advanced networked applications will provide real-time demonstrations. Campus CIOs will present
"case studies" of modifications and/or overlays to existing campus infrastructure that were put in place to connect research labs to CalREN-XD at the campus edge.
Presentations and demos will exemplify the ways in which the CalREN-XD network infrastructure is transforming scientific research, making tomorrow's
science possible today. This will allow participants from a variety of disciplines to consider new cyberinfrastructure technologies that can enable new
ways of approaching science.
California's education and research communities leverage their networking resources under CENIC, the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in
California, in order to obtain cost-effective, high-bandwidth networking to support their missions and answer the needs of their faculty, staff, and students.
Every day across the Golden State, educators and researchers rely on CENIC's high-performance fiber-optic-based network, the California Research & Education Network
(CalREN) for their networking needs.
In addition to providing the entire California research and education community with the most cost-effective advanced services network available,
the multi-tiered CalREN infrastructure supplies high-level network services needed to conduct high-performance research activities. It also provides
network researchers in California with the infrastructure needed to conduct critical investigations into optical networking technology.
