If the Internet Land Speed Record were the Indy 500, Harvey Newman of Caltech has seen the checkered flag more often than Mario Andretti. With the first beams circulating in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, and the enormous amounts of data that it's sure to generate in the months and years to come, Dr. Newman will distinguish himself even further in his desire to push today's high-performance networks to their limits and beyond in the service of research and education. Dr. Newman focuses not only on the most esoteric realms of big science but also on education and the fostering of a new generation of students who will become the researchers of tomorrow. He is also involved in the use of high-performance networks in creating opportunities for such students, especially those who would not normally have them.
