A vital part of the state Master Plan for Higher Education, the California Community Colleges have as their mission to serve any student capable of benefiting from instruction. Digital divide issues often stymie the Colleges' desire to help some students, however.

Prevailing over the digital divide with the use of network-enabled technology is the personal mission of Mt. San Jacinto College's Belinda Heiden Scott, Associate Professor of Business Education and Distance Education Coordinator, project leader of the college's Remote Desktop Services project together with Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems and Microsoft Networking Guy Reams. The Remote Desktop Services project is two-fold: it allows for all learners the ability to access course software and personal cloud storage anytime anywhere with an Internet connection, and it also utilizes the system to publish software to the classroom and lab desktops.
