This is a one-year position to manage the project to identify a more effective design of CENIC's connectivity from its fiber backbone to
campuses/colleges/County Offices of Education and off-site centers and to identify community networks with which to peer. Specific tasks
include:
- Draft project schedule(s) with dependencies
- Manage tasks, often completed by others, to schedule
- Staff project advisory committee, developing with President and CTO agendas, materials and minutes
- Review costs of existing circuit connectivity in consideration of cost-effective alternatives
- Meet with local network providers to identify local peering opportunities
- Prepare and present status reports for project advisory committee
- Prepare financial feasibility studies of potential mini hub colocation facilities located off the CalREN backbone
Skills, knowledge, and abilities in the preferred candidate include:
- Four-year degree in business, management science, or related field
- Knowledge of wide-area networking, terminology, and technologies
- Ability to work independently and take initiative but also function well in a team environment
- Attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to conceptualize designs, given financial, policy, and political constraints
