Associate Core Network Engineer

Reporting to the Director of Technical Operations, the Associate Core Engineer provides installation and operational support for the networks and infrastructure owned and/or managed by CENIC. The Associate Core Network Engineer lends technical expertise to internal staff and external customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Respond to network issues as a point of escalation for CENIC's Operations engineers.
• Install, configure, and test hardware (routers, switches, modems, etc.) at geographically distributed locations.
• Develop implementation plans for customer connections.
• Manage implementation tasks, including coordination with CENIC.s Operations engineers, commercial carriers, and other service providers on the test and turnup of telecommunications circuits.
• Obtain and/or assist in development of documentation, including as-built documentation of customer connections.
• Assist Core Network engineers in the development of proposals to management on network designs, services, policies, and procedures.
• Provide technical information, guidance, and training to other staff as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

• Hands-on installation and operations for diverse telecommunications and LAN/WAN network infrastructure
• Experience in mounting and configuring network switches and routers
• Experience with test and turnup of telecommunications circuits
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Excellent oral and written communications skills
• Strong commitment to customer service
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
• Experience with -48VDC power wiring is highly desirable.

Occasional overnight travel may be required.
