Associate Director, Core Network Engineering (E-Mail Subject: "Associate Director, Core Network Engineering")

Job Description: Reporting to the Director of Technical Operations, the Associate Director, Core Network Engineering, will provide supervision of CENIC's Core Engineering group. In this role, the Associate Director will provide overall project oversight for large scale Core Engineering deployments and upgrades, work with the Manager of Network Operations to coordinate smooth transition of projects from deployment to operations, and coordinate Core Engineering schedules for day-to-day and on-call support. The Associate Director will coordinate with the Director of Network Engineering throughout project development and deployment to ensure that projects are implemented in a timely manner meeting the original design goals and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervision of employees in the Core Engineering group, including responsibility for work schedules, time off, and performance reviews;
  • Project management of multiple, simultaneous, large-scale network deployments and upgrades;
  • Close coordination with other CENIC workgroups (e.g., Network Operations, Systems & Tools, Finance, Infrastructure, TR/CPS, etc.) as required to ensure team-based approach to developing processes and resolving issues;
  • Representation of CENIC and the Core Engineering group, as required, with external groups, such as CENIC's Technical Advisory Councils;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
  • Experience in a senior-level engineering position at a level consistent with the CENIC Core Engineer positions;
  • Expertise in technical troubleshooting and analysis;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills;
  • Strong track record in provision of exemplary customer service;
  • Strong project management skills;
  • Excellent judgement and proven decision-making skills with ability to assess technical, political, and administrative facets of any given situation effectively;
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred, may substitute equivalent experience.
