California benefits every day from having a high-performance network like CalREN as a resource for research and education, and CENIC is often
amazed at the uses to which our Charter Associates and other Associates put the network. Many of these applications have won prestigious
awards, including CENIC's own annual Innovations in Networking awards, given out each year at our
annual conference -- which will be held next
in La Jolla, CA in from March 12-14, 2007.
But in order to publicize the innovative things that our Associates are doing with CalREN, we first need to hear about them. We comb the
news and stay in touch with the achievements on each campus and in each segment of our customer base, but we'd also love to hear directly from
you. How are you making CalREN work for yourself, your students and fellow researchers, California, and the world beyond?
The watershed iGrid 2005 grid computing conference used CalREN to showcase over four dozen cutting-edge
grid computing applications. The Kings County Office of Education has installed over 30 microwave towers to provide wireless broadband
connectivity to CalREN for students, faculty, and district employees in the district offices, schools, and even at home. The international
MonALISA team located in Bucharest and Caltech have used CalREN to create and test revolutionary grid computing management software that
enables grids to function and makes many bleeding-edge applications possible.
There are other stories -- and even more than we've yet to hear. Please let us know about your application
so that we can contact you and learn even more for our monthly newsletter, our annual reports,
and our Innovations in Networking awards.
You can also contact Janis Cortese at (714) 220-3454.
We look forward to hearing from you!
