CENIC, together with other organizations, is hosting a series of statewide videoconferences featuring presentations by legislative policy specialists in Sacramento followed by Q&A from participating sites.

October 31, 2006: The Second Broadband Policy Forum

On October 31, 2006, from 1:00PM - 3:00PM, the second Broadband Policy Forum will be held at sites throughout California using K12 Video. The event is sponsored by CENIC, the K12 High-Speed Network, the Broadband Institute of California, the California Community Technology Policy Group, TechNet, the Northern Sierra Rural Health Network, and the California State Rural Health Association.

On the day of the forum, you will find a link to the online discussion forums, hosted by the California Community Technology Policy Group, and the webcast, provided by K12 Video. Check back on October 31st to watch online and discuss the topic!

Webcast will begin at 1:00PM PDT October 31st.

The topic for discussion will be changes to the California Teleconnect Fund. Invited speakers include:

  • Randy Chinn, Principal Consultant, Senate Energy & Utilities Committee
  • Susan Hildreth, State Librarian of California
  • James Lau, Director, Technology Program, The Children's Partnership
  • Jack Leutza, Telecommunications Division Director, CA Public Utilities Commission (CPUC)
  • Dan Rabovsky, Consultant, CA State Assembly Budget Committee
  • Russ Selken, Director of Network Services, K12 High-Speed Network

The first Broadband Policy Forum was held on September 8, 2006 from 10AM - 12PM and focused on Assembly bills 2987 (the Digital Infrastructure and Video Competition Act of 2006) and 1388 (the Ridley-Thomas bill). The forum was sponsored by CENIC, the Broadband Institute of California, the California Community Technology Policy Group, and TechNet, and took place over the CalREN network using CENIC's CalREN Video Services.
